Contaminant/Material Identification of Coatings & Paints

Contamination is a common problem with coatings. CAS-MI Laboratories uses multiple analytical techniques to determine the identification of unknown materials. We provide a variety of services such as:

  • Impurity analysis
  • Analysis of raw materials
  • Identification of suspect materials
  • Off-odor or off-color problems

Sometimes it is difficult to determine where contamination originates. Paints and coatings contamination may occur during manufacturing or during application. Two methods commonly used for material/contamination identification are Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (SEM/EDXA).

Our experts also offer expert witness support in legal cases involving contamination of paints, coatings and inks (see Litigation Support).
